While Mountaineers aren't coal miners, with West Virginia being known for coal mining, it served as a natural inspiration. Drawing inspiration on that history, the new uniforms feature a blend of past WVU designs and fresh elements. For football, the Morgantown font returns, and miner-inspired sleeve and pants stripes, along with coal dust patterns, are introduced. The black alternate uniform incorporates yellow and black with a coal pattern helmet and miner-style stripes. Hockey sees a shift with the removal of the pickaxe stripe, replaced by miner stripes, navy yokes on the away uniform, and optional gold pants. Baseball changes include updated sleeve and pants stripes, and the addition of a Pro Combat uniform. Basketball updates the font to match Morgantown’s style, with new coal-patterned stripes and a Pro Combat uniform featuring shoulder stripes and coal dust details down the side and shorts.
